When Laura Waites, owner of Wear wigs hair for You, thinks back on the customers she's worked with over the past 21 years, there is one in particular who immediately comes to mind.
Seven years ago, a woman strolled into the wig store where she worked in Vienna almost completely bald. Waites questioned her about the reasoning behind her decision to purchase a wig.
According to Waites, the woman responded that she was at a church event when a young girl approached her mother and asked, "Mommy, why doesn't that woman have any hair vendors? She has the features of a man.'"
Waites determined that the best option for her client was a shoulder-length, strawberry blonde wig. After turning the woman away from the mirror, she positioned the wig on her head and made any necessary adjustments to ensure a snug and comfortable fit. Waites drew the woman's attention back to the mirror and complimented her on the work she had done.
"That was one fantastic hairpiece. Waites comments that it appeared to be completely natural on her."She stood there speechless for a full minute before she finally burst into tears."
"I asked, 'What the heck is going on?'"She says, "I haven't had hair for the past seventeen years."Waites takes a pause."That is a story that will remain in my mind forever."
Waites was reminded by the event that her company, which sells wigs made of synthetic and human hair to people of all ages, including men, women, and children, is about more than just their outward appearance. People gain a sense of self-assurance and rediscover their sense of identity after donning one of her wigs, which seem to take on a life of their own.
"I do understand what it's like to feel insecure and to not have control over your own hair."
Waites claims that as she got older, she started to become more open to the idea of wearing wigs and enjoying the flexibility of being able to change her hair color or style whenever she wanted.

Wear Hair for You was established by Waites in the year 2001. The company specializes in creating natural-looking hair vendors with undetectable hairlines. Waites claims that the majority of her clients have experienced hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. Her clientele have also experienced hair loss as a result of alopecia, complications from surgery, stress, and COVID.
She claims that clients occasionally feel hesitant and overwhelmed, but that Waites is able to read their demeanor from the moment they walk through the door and immediately begins taking steps to ease their concerns.
"I've recently discovered that having healthy hair is very important to a great number of people. I do not underestimate the difficulty of this task."I take it very seriously and put a lot of effort into it," she says about herself.
"When it comes to running a business, I've taken a different approach than the typical wig shop. My history includes much, much more than just being a businesswoman.
For the past eight years, she has been teaching wig classes at the Virginia Hospital Center and Inova Life with Cancer. In these classes, she informs her students about the various types of hair fibers and the questions they should ask before purchasing a wig.
According to Waites, the future of the industry lies in the distribution of high-quality wigs to medical facilities. She has high hopes of turning Wear Hair For You into a successful franchise and teaching others how to become licensed medical hair loss practitioners.
"I am not one to rest on my accomplishments. There is always something else to occupy one's time with. There is always a more effective way to carry out any given task. Vienna address: 2539 Chain Bridge Road
