Refreshing Your Synthetic Wig – Making it Look New Again

We've all been there – you have a synthetic wig that you absolutely love, but after multiple wears and washes, it's starting to look a little worse for wear. The fibers are matted, it's lost its texture and body, and it just doesn't look as fresh and new as when you first got it. But never fear – with the right techniques, you can refresh your synthetic wig and make it look good as new again without any heat damage. In this article, we'll cover the most effective methods for bringing your wigs back to life.

Detangling

The detangling process is crucial for revival. Take your time working through any knots with a vent brush or wide-tooth comb, gently raking through sections from bottom to top. Be patient and carefully separate knots strand by strand without yanking or pulling too hard. Knots can cause damage if forcibly removed, so take care to gently work them loose. Spend 10-15 minutes fully detangling before moving on to further refreshing steps.

Adding Volume

For bodied volume and texture, use a round brush airbrush on its lowest heat setting. Roll the brush firmly from roots to ends, lifting the hair as you go. Take large, grapefruit-sized sections at once to work swiftly through the entire head of hair. Roll the brush under, over and around different angles for an all-over refresh. Pay special attention to the crown, lifting from the roots outward. Spend 5-7 minutes perking up the volume with this handy heat-safe tool.

Cleansing

A deep cleanse restores softness and removes buildup. Hold the wig under cool-to-lukewarm running water and work a dollop of diluted synthetic-safe shampoo into the fibers using fingertips. Rinse thoroughly until all soap is gone. Twist excess moisture from the wig and shape it before allowing to air dry fully, which can take a few hours. Come back to it once bone dry for subsequent steps.

Softness and Shine

Once dried, spritz a lightweight silicone serum onto palms and smooth into the lower two-thirds of strands for protection against frizzing and future tangling. Focus the product on the ends and avoid over-application which could weigh hair down. Take 5 minutes to rake the serum thoroughly through those problem-prone areas.

By taking the time with these detailed steps, you can completely revive your beloved synthetic wig and make it look like new again! Extend its life and save money in the long run.
