Welcome back to the Wig Obsess YouTube channel! I’m Marcy, and today we’re diving into a comprehensive guide on how to style your wigs efficiently and effectively. Whether you’re new to wigs or a seasoned enthusiast, these steps will help you make the most out of your wig. Let’s get started with our four-step process using the beautiful Zara by UniWigs, a Remy human hair monotop wig.
Step 1: Preparing Your Own Hair and Unboxing the Wig
Prepping Your Hair
Before you even touch your wig, it’s crucial to prepare your own hair. This ensures a smooth and secure fit for the wig. If you have longer hair like me, pull it back into a low ponytail. For additional security, use a wig grip. This handy accessory prevents your wig cap from sliding forward or back, ensuring your wig stays in place comfortably throughout the day.
Unboxing Your New Wig
Now, let’s unbox the Zara wig. Inside the box, you’ll find the wig neatly packaged along with a rat tail comb, some knot eraser tape, and a thank you card. Upon removing the wig, you’ll notice the beautiful color and curls, the full monotop allowing versatile parting, and adjustable straps and clips for a customizable fit.
Step 2: Customizing and Initial Fitting
Adjusting the Fit
Before trying on the wig, check the fit. Zara comes with adjustable straps which can be tightened or loosened depending on your head size. If the wig feels secure without additional adjustments, you might not need to use the extra strap.
Trying It On
Now, place the wig on your head. Adjust the placement until it feels comfortable and secure. The clips can grip onto your natural hair (if you choose to use them) for added security.
Step 3: Cutting and Styling the Lace
Trimming the Lace
Before styling, it’s important to trim the lace front to match your natural hairline. Pin back the hair from the face of the wig to avoid accidentally cutting any strands. With sharp scissors, carefully trim about a quarter inch of lace, leaving enough in case further adjustments are needed.
Styling the Wig
Human hair wigs, unlike synthetic ones, require styling as they don’t retain pre-styled shapes. Start by applying a heat protectant. For Zara, I straightened the parting to align it properly and then used a CHI Twisting Curl to curl the hair, enhancing its natural volume and texture.
Step 4: Final Fitting and Maintenance Tips
Securing the Wig
Once styled, try your wig on again. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure that it fits well and looks natural. Check the alignment of the lace front and the overall placement of the wig.
Maintenance
Maintaining a human hair wig is similar to caring for your natural hair. Regular washing, drying, and conditioning are essential to keep the wig looking fresh and vibrant. Always use products suitable for human hair wigs and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the best results.
Wearing and Enjoying
Congratulations! Your wig is now styled and ready to wear. Whether it’s an everyday look or a special occasion, enjoy the new addition to your style repertoire. Remember, a well-maintained wig can last a long time, providing value and versatility to your wardrobe.
