Seven things you should never do while you have your wig on

Believe us when we say that we will be the first ones in line for a wig that can grow its own hair once it is invented.   In the meantime, it is essential to show your second scalp the utmost care in order to not only lengthen the time it will last, but also to ensure that it continues to look fabulous and up-to-date.   In order to keep your wig in pristine condition while you wear it, here are some things you should never do.

1.   Use a regular shampoo or styling products to shampoo your hair.

That's a lot of weight, man.   The majority of regular shampoos and conditioners designed for natural hair will make the strands of your wig feel heavy and weighed down, producing the opposite effect of fresh and bouncy locks.   What's the upbeat report? There are businesses out there that are committed to developing cosmetics and other beauty aids specifically for people who wear wigs, such as yourself.

In other words, you should always make sure to use hair care products that are designed to be used specifically on wigs rather than generic hair care products.

A specially formulated product, from feather-light shampoo to silky smooth conditioner, can breathe new life into a wig that has lost its luster.

What could be better than looking great while also allowing your wig to last for a longer period of time?

2.   Curl your hair with an iron or dry it with a blow dryer.

Wigs have a natural and inherent adversary in heated styling tools.   Do you think we're making things up? Pay attention.

When you put a synthetic hair wig through the heat of a hair dryer, curling iron, or straightening iron, it's like putting Barbie in a toaster oven; the poor thing will wither and melt away.   A synthetic hair wig can be completely ruined by heat styling tools, unless you are wearing a synthetic wig that is designed to withstand heat styling.   However, that is an entirely different story.

Additionally, despite the fact that it may seem counterintuitive, the use of heat tools can be detrimental to human hair wigs as well.   Why? Wig caps do not produce the same level of moisture as natural scalp hair, which is naturally lubricated with moisturizing oils as it grows out of your scalp.   Heat styling tools are especially damaging to the delicate strands that make up natural hair wigs, and the damage they cause can be permanent.

However, this does not imply that you are forced to accept having pancake hair.   To get a ride, do one of the following:

Spray and comb your hair.   The five-finger "do-scount" is the name given to this method.   If your wig is in need of a pick-me-up, spritz it with water from a spray bottle, and then gently tangle it with your fingers in a tousled style.

Adapt your look to the product.   Hairspray and mousse, oh my! Combs with large teeth! These are some of our most treasured possessions.   Droopy locks can be given full-bodied luster by adding a squirt of styling mousse, then fluffing it up with a wide comb, and finally holding it all in place with hairspray.

Consult a specialist about it.   If you are completely and utterly fed up with the way your wig looks, you should consider taking it to a professional stylist.   That way, you can switch up the style without exposing yourself to an excessive amount of risk.  .  .  not that we don't have faith in your ability to make your own scissors at home.  .  .  but, you know, it's better to be safe than sorry.

3.   Use a standard brush to brush your teeth.

Do you have any memory of the regular hairbrush you used to use before you started wearing your wig? If it was anything like ours, it most likely had clumps of hair sticking out all over the place, making it look like a small wild animal.

This is due to the fact that typical brushes and combs are very rough on the hair.   And if they are capable of causing that much damage to the hair that you grow on your own, can you even begin to fathom the havoc that they wreak on wigs?

You don't have to imagine it because we're going to tell you: using regular brushes and combs can permanently damage a wig's delicate strands by stretching the fibers and tangling them.   This not only compromises the overall look of the style, but it also runs the risk of causing the wig's hair to come loose.

But we understand that you don't want to go around looking like a caveman with your hair all bushy and long.

Therefore, instead of using a conventional brush, you should consider using a wig brush or a comb with wide teeth.   If you're going for volume, we recommend looking for a comb with wide teeth and a non-slip grip, or one made of metal that defrizzes as it detangles.

If you buy a wig comb now, it will help your wig maintain its lush and full appearance for a longer period of time, which will result in significant savings down the road.

4.   Place your wig on a head made of Styrofoam.

We are the first to admit that a Styrofoam head, a smear of lipstick, and a few googly eyes can make for an interesting afternoon tea date.   However, it makes for a terrible nighttime companion for your wig.

Every one of our wigs is made to have the ideal fit, which means that it is neither overly loose nor overly tight.   However, trying to fit a wig onto a head made of Styrofoam will cause the cap to stretch and will damage the foundation of your hairstyle.   Instead, drape it on a metal wig stand that folds up, as this will help your wig keep its designated shape while preventing the size from being distorted.

5.   Use a brush to scrub while you are washing or drying

It's been said that cleanliness is next to godliness, but washing your wig is the antithesis of a good thing.   We are aware that it is appealing, particularly if you are accustomed to shampooing your regular hair with vigor.   However, the intricate construction of a wig can become undone if too much force is applied to it.

Try to avoid scrubbing the surface and instead blot it gently with a washcloth.   After you are finished washing it, don't wring it out; instead, pat it dry with a towel and then hang it up on a wig stand so that it can air dry.

6.   Swim with your hairpiece on.

Both chlorine and saltwater can bring on a case of the blues when you have a bad hair day.   In contrast to saltwater, which causes hair to become brittle and dry by drawing moisture out of it, chlorine is loaded with disinfectants that strip hair of its silky sheen and leave it looking dull.

Avoid participating in activities that require you to submerge your hair in water, whether you have real hair or a wig that has been expertly styled to look like real hair.   However, this does not imply that you should completely avoid going to beaches and pools.   Try topping off your getup with a vintage floral or turban swim cap rather than your usual wig for a more unique look.   A more understated look can be achieved by wearing a regular swim cap that is made of super-soft fabric.

7.   Grill or bbq

Not only do individual strands of synthetic hair have an unpleasant taste, but they also shrivel up when exposed to high temperatures.   When exposed to heat, wigs made of human hair might not necessarily melt, but they might become frizzy, brittle, and dry instead.   On the other hand, synthetic wigs have the ability to completely melt.

While you are rocking your wig, ask your sweetheart to assist you in sliding things into and out of the oven.   Additionally, while you are rocking your wig, try to avoid pots of boiling water, smoky grills, and dishwashers immediately after the dry cycle has completed.   It is best not to leave your wig unattended in a warm car for an extended period of time.

On the other hand, this does not imply that you should remain indoors when the weather is nice.   It should be fine to wear your wig out in the regular sunshine; however, if you want to give your wig a break from the sun, you could always choose to wear a sun hat instead.   You can add an additional layer of defense to your wig by wearing a silk scarf underneath it and wrapping it around your head while you wear it.

You can keep your wig in pristine condition so long as you steer clear of these seven common mistakes.   Do you know of any other techniques that can be used to keep your wig looking fresh?
